This week’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am has me thinking about my trip up there. It was hard to plan for what to wear because the weather is so fickle. Luckily I found a brand that was up to the challenge of dressing well, and warmly, for December weather on the Monterey Peninsula.

State Apparel is a brand out of San Francisco. I had the good fortune of meeting the founder, Jason Yip, not too long ago. We got to talking about golf and I told him I liked this brand called State Apparel. He could hardly believe it because he said he was the founder, and at the time sole proprietor, of State Apparel. Small world sometimes.

Back to Pebble Beach. I went there just before Christmas in 2016. If you’ve ever been to Pebble Beach, you know the weather can change in an instant. Wearing the right clothes was going to be tricky. Luckily I had a pair of State Apparel’s competition pants on and the day was a delight.

The pants are “breathable and stretchable tri-layer performance fabric for water, wind, and wrinkle resistance” according to the website. They live up to the billing. The pants are perfect for wet conditions. They have multiple areas built into the pants where you can clean clubs and balls without running to your bag or towels. I love those features.

It makes sense that a brand built by a golfer based out of San Francisco would know how to make clothes able to withstand Pebble Beach’s varied climate. Just as importantly, the clothes look sharp. You have to dress well at Pebble Beach after all!

So if you’re in the market for a brand built for inclement weather, that looks great on and off the course, try State Apparel. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
